Here we go, friends, with the third and last blogathon announcement of this week! This time around, Quiggy of The Midnite Drive-In and I will be co-hosting the Neighbors Blogathon.
The Neighbors Blogathon is what it sounds like. It’s all about neighbors in movies or TV shows. When we were planning this blogathon, I kept thinking about how many TV sitcoms are built around neighbors popping in for a visit. Kramer visited Seinfeld. Fred and Ethel visited Lucy and Rick. The Jeffersons had tons of people constantly in and out of their deluxe apartment in the sky. Rhoda visited Mary Tyler Moore.
Movies are no different, of course, except that they tend to be less contained. Neighbors can be an integral part of a movie’s plot, whether good or not-so-good. They can be weird and mysterious, like the Klopeks in The ‘burbs, or loud and pesky like Mrs Connelly in Duplex. Or maybe just plain scary.
Anyway, for the Neighbors Blogathon, all you fine bloggers out there are invited to write about movies and TV shows that feature neighbors. All kinds of neighbors. The show or movie can be from any genre or any era, and the neighbors don’t have to be current ones. Even someone going home for a visit and running into old, familiar faces counts. There are lots and lots of possibilities, obviously.
And now it’s time for…
The Rules
- If anyone would like to participate, please leave a comment at the end of this post, or drop me a line via my Contact page, X, Bluesky, or Instagram (all @TakingUpRoom), or e-mail me at rebeccadeniston@gmail.com. Quiggy’s contact info can be found on his announcement post.
- Please leave your blog name and chosen topic, which can be from any era and any genre. Participants are limited to three posts.
- The blogathon will take place from May twenty-fourth until May twenty-sixth. Posts can be sent to Quiggy and I on or around those days, via any of the channels listed above. Just to make sure we get everything, please send your posts to both of us.
- New material only, please, and nothing derogatory will be accepted.
- Since neighbors in film and TV is such a vast subject, duplicates are forbidden. However, the same topics can be explored from different angles, such as via a listicle.
- Grab a banner and advertise the blogathon!

Highly anticipating this. Been 40 years since I watched “Neighbors” the first time. Even then I liked black comedy, so even though Belushi played against cast (in my opinion), I fondly remembered it.

Yeah, I’ll look forward to reading your thoughts. I have to say, though, right off the bat, that blond hair doesn’t suit Dan Akroyd. I’m guessing that’s by design, though?

Being a huge I Love Lucy fan I can’t pass this up.
Can I write about the funniest feuds between the Ricardos and Mertzes on I Love Lucy?

Hi Rebecca. I’m currently in hospital and will be discharged tomorrow – so I’m lucky I seen this blogathon announcement in time. Luckily, I will be having a short break from research the week of this event – so I know that I can actually submit my posts. With all that said: I would love to write about Fred and Ethel from “I Love Lucy” and Gladys and Abner Kravitz from “Bewitched”, if that’s ok?
My blog: In The Good Old Days Of Classic Hollywood.

Hi, Crystal! That’s great. Kayla’s writing about the feuds on the show, but your topic is from a different angle so it should be OK. I’ll confirm with Quiggy and let you know. Thanks for joining. 🙂

Hi, Crystal. Sorry, I’ve been away from the blog all day, but I just looked and your messages were in the Spam folder for some reason. This is happening a lot lately and none of the messages are spam. Weird. Anyway, thanks! I’ll take a look.

Hi Rebecca! I’d like to write about Breakfast at Tiffany’s if that’s ok! 🙂
Since it’s a film with Audrey Hepburn, I’d like to submit via my companion blog Three Enchanting Ladies. https://threeenchantingladies.wordpress.com/
Thank you!
