It’s that time again, friends. I know this is a favorite blogathon of a lot of you, and it’s one of mine, too. Seeing how low cinema can go is quite the adventure. I don’t know about anyone else, but just in this past year I’ve not only reviewed the usual raft of badness here on the blog, but over on my Substack page are tales of going to screenings of Crossroads and The Room. No, no one threw spoons at the latter, but there was a running commentary from the audience that was absolutely hilarious.
Anyway, for those who are new to this blogathon, this is when we talk about guilty pleasure movies, bad movies, so-bad-they’re-good movies, and even unpopular opinions about movies. It gets crazy, it gets zany, it’s always unexpected, and every year without fail the blogging world brings it. If anyone is game to join, here are…
The Rules
- If anyone would like to join, please comment with your name, your choice of topic and the name of your blog, podcast, YouTube channel, or what have you. You can also contact me via Twitter and Instagram (both @TakingUpRoom) or my Contact Page.
- The blogathon will take place from February 23 until February 25, 2024. Posts can be sent to me on or around those days, whether by leaving a comment or by any of the avenues mentioned above.
- Since this is such a big topic, duplicates are forbidden unless a film is part of a listicle. Movies can be from any era and any genre.
- Participants are limited to three posts.
- New material only, please.
- If anyone needs ideas, lists can be found here and here, and links to past blogathons can be found here.
- Grab a banner and advertise the blogathon!

Just the inspiration I need to finally buckle down and do a review that has been in the planning stages for a year or two. Please sign me up for a double feature of comedies starring Sylvester Stallone. (yes. I said “comedies”… believe it or not.) “Rhinestone” and “Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot!”

I’d love to get involved please. You mentioned Superman III which is one my guilty pleasures too. But it got me thinking: I’d like to give a defence of Supergirl (the 1984 movie) a go in February. 🙂 Many thanks.

Hi Rebecca! I saw this a little while ago and really had to ponder what film to write about. The thing with silent films is, if they’re bad, they’re pretty much just plain bad, lol. But I think THE AFFAIRS OF ANATOL (1921) might work, its plot is pretty awkward but it’s a DeMille film, yu can’t stop watching. 😀
