The Sunshine Blogger Award Is BACK

sunshine-blogger-award

It’s been a long time since we’ve done any blogger awards, hasn’t it? Well, the lovely Gill from Realweegiemidget Reviews has nominated me for a Sunshine Award! Thanks, Gill! Not to brag or anything, but I believe this is my seventh ray of Sunshine. 🙂

First off, of course, I have to give you the rules for this prestigious honor, so here we go…

  • List the award’s official rules
  • Display the award’s official logo somewhere on your blog
  • Thank the person who nominated you
  • Provide a link to your nominator’s blog
  • Answer your nominator’s questions
  • Nominate up to 11 bloggers
  • Ask your nominees 11 questions
  • Notify your nominees by commenting on at least one of their blog posts

And now for Gill’s questions:

You are presented with an award for your services to film blogging, who do you choose to accept it from? Leonard Maltin, because he’s done so much for film history and preservation, plus he’s a fun guy.

Which 1970s disaster movie group of survivors would you like to celebrate your blogging award with? The Towering Inferno and The Poseidon Adventure. They’re already dressed for a party, after all.

Which child star do you think deserves an Oscar for their performance as a child actor? It’s a tie for me, actually–Mary Badham and Phillip Alford gave beautiful performances in To Kill A Mockingbird.

What film or TV Series shouldn’t have been remade? MacGyver. The remake is absolutely ludicrous (why did they gender-flip Murdoc and Pete?), and it says everything that Richard Dean Anderson refused to give it his blessing.

What fabulous film or acting talent have you discovered when writing your blog? I have discovered the surprisingly wide world of bad films, particularly the so-bad-they’re-good variety, which is something I’ve never really explored. It makes me wonder about the ninety-five percent of screenplay submissions studios supposedly reject…maybe they’re betting on the wrong ponies? Other than that, one of the things I like about blogging is being able to spot common characteristics of a particular genre or tastes and running motifs of different filmmakers. It’s all fun.

What genre do you hate writing about? I can’t stand gross-out humor, but that’s more of a comedic subgenre (Read my review of Joy Ride here–that movie has gross-out humor aplenty. I only saw it because it was basically free).

What’s your favourite instrumental piece written for a movie? That’s a hard choice. I like pretty much everything John Williams has done, of course, but the Mission: Impossible theme is so, so cool. I like that they find new ways to orchestrate it in every movie and it always rocks.

What’s your favourite film musical? That’s also a hard choice–I think I’d have to pick them by decade, and even then it’s not easy. If I had to narrow it down, though, I’d probably say Funny Face, The Wizard of Oz, Strike Up the Band and Singin’ In the Rain.

What TV Movie do you think should have been released as a feature film? Treasure Island with Christian Bale and Charlton Heston. I first saw it on VHS, so I was really shocked when I found out it was a TNT movie.

Which movie star’s autobiography would you like to ghostwrite? It’s not possible anymore, but I would have loved to have ghostwritten Ann Rutherford’s autobiography. That woman met so many people and made so many films that she was a fountain of stories and perspectives, plus she was a really sweet lady. I think it’s criminal that she’s never gotten her own biography, auto or otherwise. Thank goodness she gave lots of interviews.

Which soap opera character would you want to be stuck on a desert island with? Soap operas, at least the daytime ones, have always bored me so I never really watched them, but I know Christian Slater played a character named Scotty Riley on All My Children when he was fifteen, so I guess I would say the grown-up version of him. Maybe?

OK, now that that’s done, here comes the part when I get to pick my eleven bloggers and ask my eleven questions. Oh boy, here we go…

The Bloggers

And now for…

The Questions

  1. What are your top five movies from this year? So far, anyway.
  2. Which movies are you looking forward to seeing next year?
  3. Which movies (if any) do you regret watching this year?
  4. Marilyn Monroe’s last house was recently (and temporarily) spared demolition. What are your thoughts on celebrity homes–should they be preserved as historic landmarks or should they be torn down like many upscale homes in the LA area eventually are? This is a really nuanced question but an interesting one, in my opinion.
  5. Which movies do you think deserve the Broadway treatment?
  6. Quick–a celebrity is coming to your house for dinner. Who is it and what would you serve them?
  7. Which YouTuber or YouTubers would you like to see in a feature film?
  8. A musical is being made of your life. Who would you want to write it and who would play you?
  9. Where do you get ideas for writing your blog? Do you have any particular inspirations?
  10. You have the chance to be a guest host on TCM. Which show do you host or which kinds of movies do you want to introduce?
  11. Do you have a favorite silent movie? If so, which one?

All right, there we go. Thanks again, Gill, and congrats to all my wonderful bloggers!

Terence’s Rule Britannia Blogathon is coming up this weekend, and I’ll be getting my post for it in tomorrow. Hope to see you all then…
