Yes, you read that right: I broke down and got a Patreon. This was not something I would have originally planned on, since a blogger’s budget is generally pretty small, if we have a budget at all. It’s not as if we’re always buying new cameras or plane tickets or something. Maybe this is my Gen-X-ness talking, but it almost feels like holding out a tip jar.
When I thought about it some more, though, I realized that a Patreon account would give me more time to interact with you, dear readers, as well as a place for extras that might not fit on the blog, such as historical factoids and behind the scenes stuff. And it may enable me to expand the blog’s features. I’m not sure what that means yet, but it’s going to be interesting to find out. So far, I’m thinking trivia contests might be one of the perks. Schedules of upcoming posts will definitely be a thing, although they probably won’t be set in stone. Gotta watch us writers and bloggers; we can be a mercurial bunch sometimes. ๐
One thing that will definitely happen is patrons will have their names listed on a special page on Taking Up Room, plus the higher two tiers will get an exclusive Taking Up Room sticker. I can’t promise what the sticker will look like, but I’m hoping to get some custom artwork done someday.
Taking Up Room will always be completely free, so don’t anyone feel as if they have to subscribe to the Patreon account to read the blog. It’s all good. Either way, I hope you will check out the page and see what’s going on there. I don’t know what I’m doing, but I think it’s going to be fun. Such is life.
All righty, my entry for Heidi’s Epic Story Month Blogathon is going live on Tuesday. Thanks for reading, all, and have a good weekend…
Ooh Good luck Rebecca, sounds an exciting adventure!
